 4.11.02 Key Customers Join Nera Satcom, Inmarsat and Mackay Communications in the Release of Nera’s F77 Miami, FL (April 11, 2002). Seventy-five of Mackay Communication’s key customers were invited to the kick-off of Nera Satcom’s revolutionary satellite communications product, the Nera F77, which utilizes the recently released Inmarsat FLEET Satellite System. At this pre-launch debut, customers were given a complete presentation of the Nera F77, including applications and a live demonstration of its voice, data and video capabilities. Before this product was announced, only high-seas marine customers could enjoy the benefits of an “office-at-sea” due to size, technical and cost limitations. One of the major benefits of the F77, in conjunction with Inmarsat’s FLEET system, is the MPDS (Mobile Packet Data Service) feature, which enables you to be ‘always on-line’ and only paying for the data that is transmitted. The catered event was held at the St. Thomas Pavilion in the Volvo Ocean Village, located at the waterfront of the American Airline’s Arena in Miami. The Volvo Ocean Village was constructed to support the two-week stopover of the eight 60’ racing boats participating in the Volvo Ocean Race (formally known as the Whitbread). This is a 10-month race that began in Southampton, England September 2001, with the goal of circumnavigating the globe included stopovers in ten key ports before ending in Kiel, Germany in June 2002. In addition to supplying all the satellite communications equipment to the sailing vessels, Nera Satcom is also one of the primary sponsors of the Norwegian-based race entry djuice, skippered by Knut Frostad. Immediately following the presentation by Nera, Inmarsat and Mackay management and applications engineers, customers were given a personal tour of the Ocean Village and one of the actual race boats. Several customers returned to the St. Thomas Pavilion to attend the official Press Conference for the release of Nera Satcom’s F77. Twenty-plus journalists were present for the debut that evening. Mackay continued cooperative relationship with Inmarsat and Nera results in providing Mackay customers with quality products and reliable service plans for their satellite communications needs.
