JQE-3A is a Class “A” 406MHz, Satellite Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB). When thrown into the water or automatically released from the bracket under water pressure from a vessel in distress, the JQE-3A EPIRB automatically emits a 406MHz distress signal. The COSPAS/SARSAT satellite receives and relays the signal to a Land Earth Station (LES) on 1.5 GHz. The LES decodes and transmits the signal information including the location of the EPIRB to a Rescue Co-ordination Center (RCC) for a quick start of Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
